Focus:  Data on budgets and ranking of funding for airport FOD safety.  What to expect in the FAA

Reauthorization, will surface management safety be a priority, what questions the Hill will have in

drafting a bill (cost, research needs, industry leading technology), potential landscape changes

after the mid-term election

Focus:  Real World Data and Events from airports that have installed FOD detection systems which

have integrated the systems into airport operations and provides coverage for all runway

Focus:  Any incident at an airfield opens its operations up to scrutiny by legal representatives for

all those involved.  How has liability been reduced by present systems versus the cost of doing

nothing, liability for airports, aviation manufacturers, specific incidents to discuss – Concorde

liability, Boeing suit for paint/bead mistake, aircraft such as Lear 25 that are FOD magnets

Focus:  Technology has advanced since the Concorde and Hudson incidents—what are they and

where are they operational?  Latest advancements in tracking and detection technology,

challenges under assessment, US aviation policy limitations/needs, where does full avian tracking

exist (oil sites), where are domestic FOD resources directed, concerns with domestic airport RFPs

for tracking technology

1500   Agency and Financing Panel  Moderator:  Sandy Garrett

Focus:  FAA/NTSB/EUROCAE will provide an insight to where we are at in rolling out approved 

technology and airports current progress/status.  Outlook for AIP funding and P3 funding for

critical surface safety management technology, upcoming rules or advisory circulars affecting
